Cloontagh National School Home
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Scoil Íde, Cloontagh N.S.Website where you will get an insight into the life of your local rural school.

Cloontagh N.S.is a small two-teacher school based in Killashee Parish. The school is under the patronage of Bishop Paul Connell and a Catholic ethos is upheld.

Our school has a long tradition in serving the educational needs of this local community having been established on this site in 1895.

In our school we take pride in our ability to cater for the needs of the individual child in small class groupings. We encourage each child to develop their ability and in doing so each child is facilitated in reaching his/her potential.

The holistic development of the child; spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically is echoed in our mission statement. We are reflective and always willing to adapt to new circumstances.

W.B. Yeats said: ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’. We aim to draw out the best in each child and open a world of wonder for them through self- directed learning.

At Cloontagh N.S. we uphold long established values of dignity and mutual respect. We pride ourselves on creating a secure and happy atmosphere around our daily activities.

The school is well stocked with resources for every subject and of course the best resource is our staff who are diligent and hard -working. We draw on everyone’s experience to deliver a shared vision of teaching. We use up to the minute technology and ICT.

The old Irish saying: ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile ‘, is very relevant in the Cloontagh School context. We work as a team. We are delighted to have a vibrant Parents Association that is actively involved in supporting our educational and extra-curricular ventures. The BoM is responsible for managing the school. We are very fortunate to have such loyal and committed members who give so much of their time voluntarily thereby ensuring our children have the best opportunities. The pupils too, have their own committee and their voice is heard.
